October is Fire Prevention Month, a time dedicated to educating our community—especially children—about fire safety and prevention. Throughout the month, members of the fire department visit local schools and day care centers to teach age-appropriate fire safety lessons in a fun and engaging way.
During these visits, firefighters talk with children about important topics such as smoke alarms, stop-drop-and-roll, calling 911, home escape plans, and what to do if they see fire or smoke. Students also get the opportunity to meet firefighters in full gear, helping reduce fear and build trust in emergency responders.
These outreach efforts are an important part of our mission to prevent fires before they happen and to ensure that even our youngest community members know how to stay safe. By partnering with schools and day cares, the fire department helps build lifelong fire safety awareness—one visit at a time.
