| Yesterday evening, members of Seneca Hose gathered to honor and remember Tyler Schenck.
During the event, a memorial was installed in the apparatus bay to keep Tyler’s memory alive.
A New York hook with a noticeable bend was mounted and labeled with his name. The bent hook is more than just a well-used tool; it is a token of a memorable story.
On a late-night fire alarm call, Tyler Schenck was assigned to ride in the hook and can position. After the incident, the hook may not have been properly placed back onto the engine, which resulted in it being accidentally left behind in the road.
Upon returning to the station, the crew noticed the missing tool and quickly returned to the site, only to find it had been run over, creating the bend. The hook was brought back to the station and was soon dubbed “the Schenck hook.”
Tyler embraced the story, maintaining his positive spirit and promising that it would not happen again.
Today, the hook is proudly displayed and will continue to honor Tyler’s memory for generations to come. Future members will inevitably ask, “What’s with that bent hook?”
